Trading Pretty Good for Wonderful

“The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14

Hi friends. I hope everyone is having a beautiful summer! Mine has been altogether lovely. Today I just really feel like writing about the importance of trusting God, because trusting anyone nowadays is really hard. People are really mean sometimes, and it seems like every time you trust someone they give you a reason to not. This is a symptom of the human condition. We’re gross and disgusting and selfish because we’re perfectly imperfect sinners. That’s why we can’t be trusted. It’s a good thing that God isn’t human.

I guess we just have trouble trusting God because A) humans are hard to trust, and we deal with those a lot of the time, and B) we can’t see Him, so it’s hard to know He’s there sometimes. But you guys, everything about God is so much more real than humans, even though we can’t physically touch Him. I’m amazed every single day with how beautiful God has made every single thing… not just physical beauty, but the beauty of all the different languages and how we can put words together that sound prettier than they are and the way we blink without having to think about it and the way we can move our fingers across a keyboard and make a sound that is beautiful out of something that was silent. Every single thing that God created is so intricate and so wonderful and so gorgeous. We can see Him in so many things, but we have trouble knowing He is there because He isn’t just a something that we can touch and look at and hug, He is so many somethings that we can touch and look at and hug.

I think a big reason why God makes humans so untrustworthy and a reason why we are let down by all the things this world can promise is so that we can know for certain that God is the only one that we need to be able to trust. The thing is, the times when we have nothing are the times that we realized how wonderful and how abundant the love of Christ is. Sometimes we forget how wonderful Jesus is when we are surrounded by pretty good things. When we focus on the pretty good things, our life is pretty good, but we are not satisfied, because our life is not wonderful. Because of the way God designed us, we cannot be truly fulfilled unless He is our everything. That’s why when we have nothing, we realize how much we really do have. When you live a life centered around Jesus, when His desires are your desires, there’s absolutely nothing for you to be worried about losing. When we are focused on pretty good things, sometimes the fear of losing those pretty good things is so paralyzing that it takes away from us having a pretty good life and makes it kind of not good at all. The thing about the Lord is, we can never lose Him. Once you’re in, you’re in. What’s so great about knowing Him is that when we know Him, nothing we have  compares to the overwhelming and eclipsing vastness of His love. That means we don’t fear losing anything, because we know that we will never ever lose Him. This is the place all Christians should be, and sadly a lot are not. I think a lot of the reason so many people fall into just doing “religious” things with no heart is because they are not or maybe haven’t ever truly experienced God as their all-encompassing focus.

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

When we delight in the Lord, when all we want is Him and everything that makes us happy is rooted in Christ, our desires become what God desires for us. If we’re really living in Christ, we aren’t interested in the biggest house or the nicest car or being well-liked, we’re interested in things that benefit the kingdom of God. It says right there in the Bible that when we delight ourselves in the Lord, God will give us the desires of our heart. It doesn’t say He might, it says He will. If that’s not enough of a reason to trust the Lord with everything in your life, I don’t know what is. We try to control things that are out of our control all too often and waste way too much time when all we really had to do was tell Jesus to take care of it and be still. The Lord will fight for us. He really is on our side, you guys. Everything that happens is in His control and is serving a greater purpose. So delight yourself in the Lord, and I promise you will always be delighted.

I love you all so much, and I just want to take a second to say a quick thank you to all of you who read all of my blogs consistently! And I want to say thanks to all of you who have encouraged me and told me what God has shown you through something He has allowed me to write. Nothing makes me happier than to know that I have been used by the Lord to make a difference in someone else’s life, so to all of you who have shared that with me, and even if there’s any who haven’t told me, I am thanking the Lord for you and praying for you daily. I have just been blessed beyond belief with such great and encouraging people in my life. We should all have a tea party or something. Y’all rock.

With love,
